Here's my poetic rant about smart phones that turn us into zombies:
Smart Phones:
Life is busy, fast and quick,
And we crave that social media fix.
Enter your passcode, and open the door,
Video that girl, lying wasted on the floor.
Links all over the world in one click.
Nice selfie! Give that a like in one flick.
X-Factor, Jezza Kyle and Corrie
All lying there waiting to be streamed
Wasting time, procrastination, it seemed.
Whilst that little girl screams, and screams
Her mother too busy updating her status
To take that social media hiatus
Spectating a snapchat story
Since when did that have more glory,
Than reading a book?
In a world where you don’t even have time to look
A 9 second vine video, they swore
Is that all we’ve got time for? No, one more!
We’re “technologically literate”
Let me just irritate
It results in us tlkng lyk dis
When getting 10 likes makes you feel bliss
This profanity
And new found materialistic vanity.
We’re the generation that are so smart
We might as well be bionic and not have a heart
We’re so smart yet so shit.
No one helps, cares or does their bit
Online personas are more significant
You can share your life, oh, brilliant.
But where does that leave me?
Wading through a sea
Of reblogs, likes and hashtags
Pictures of lipstick, trainers and handbags
Great it’s so easy now
To document our lives, “like OMG wow”.
When looking down at a phone
Is now how we deal with being alone?
Get up and talk
Move about and walk
Stop looking at that screen
Before you throw your “slow” phone and scream.
Thanks for reading,
Bekka.
