Here we are its Friday night and what better way to spend
it, than putting on some Lush facemasks and having an all-round girly night in.
We decided to treat ourselves and more importantly our faces to a good old
pampering session, using the products modelled by ourselves below. This brand
is significantly popular in the UK as it is 100% vegetarian, all the products
are fresh and handmade, and it also aims to fight animal testing. So as there
are two of us, we tried out two different facemasks to give a bit more variety.
Our initial review and thoughts will be detailed below.
Cupcake facemask –
Bekka
Cons: The price at
£6.25 can seem an extortionate amount for a student, that’s like two drinks
whilst you’re on a night out! That and the fact you have to weigh the price up
with the amount of uses you get, LUSH recommends because it’s products are made
using fresh ingredients you use it within 4-6 weeks. So if you use the mask
twice a week for six weeks that’s almost 52p per use. I personally ignore the
use by date and used a mask I bought last year I haven’t noticed the difference
or suffered any break outs. Another con is the fact you have to keep it in the
fridge, I often forget I have this facemask due to this and end up using one in
a tube simply because it’s not with the rest of my skincare. That and whilst
being at university I wouldn’t recommend you keep it in your shared fridge,
your drunken roommate may end up scoffing it thinking it’s actual chocolate or Nutella.
Pros: I tried the
Cupcake facemask and have used it for 2 years now and cannot find a cheaper
alternative or one in comparison to what this does for my skin. I suffer from
extremely oily skin and acute acne, the mask doesn’t strip my skin of all its
oils but is left feeling smooth and oil-free. A nice feeling when your face
usually resembles a grease-ball. Not only does it smell delicious like
chocolate and it’s a right laugh putting it on. It also works wonders for my
skin as within one use it clears up blackheads. I’m not claiming it removes all
blackheads in one use but using twice or once a week as part of your skin care
you will see a noticeable difference. My blackheads are not as prominent and
seemed to have cleared up. After using this mask for two years I can easily say
it’s hands down the best I’ve tried for my skin type. I would not recommend
anyone with dry skin to use this as it will strip your skin and leave dry
patches as it did when my friend tried mine. If you have combination skin maybe
just use it in the areas you get oily such as your T-zone which would help
significantly with oil-control. I’ve missed this facemask so much!
Overall I’d give this product 4.5/5. (only because of the
fridge storage and price point). I’d recommend for oily skin and possibly
combination to use. For dry skin sufferers this is definitely a no go!
Mask of Magnaminty
– Kiana
Cons: The
intentions of the mask were not directly reflected within the results, as I
have spot-prone skin I feel it didn’t eliminate or reduce any of my visible
pimples. Having used the mask twice previous to this time, I haven’t noticed
any direct improvements to my skin. This is quite a let-down when taking the
price into consideration, as it is £5.25 for 125g.
Pros: Packaging
for me is quite important as it is sometimes what draws me to a specific
product, this for me ticks all the right boxes as it is black and sports a very
simple design, whilst also detailing the products information. The first thing
you acknowledge when opening the mask is the distinctive smell, as displayed in
the name it features a fresh peppermint fragrance, resembling a piece chewing
gum (which I love). Another great aspect
of this product is its directions of use, as it can be distributed on both the
face and the back, so if you suffer from acne in these areas the product can
fulfil a multi-purpose. Also as it is stored within the fridge, when applying I
find it to be extremely cooling towards the skin, perfect for hot summer days. I
did find this product quite drying and felt the need to moisturise after use,
however I did recognise that it has combatted and reduced my oiliness, as I
have combination skin. Although I have used the mask three times in total,
their seems to be a lot of product left which is definitely a plus, as it is
quite expensive.
Overall I’d give this product 3.5/5. This is due to it not
really working on my type of skin, as it didn’t minimize the appearance of
spots. However I love its minty scent and the cooling effect experienced when
applying.
Hope
you enjoyed reading this as much as we enjoyed applying it.
